MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough mocked the White House and Democrats in Congress on Tuesday as "laughably out of touch" with the country’s embrace of an ongoing energy revolution, Breitbart.com reported.

On "Morning Joe," the show's co-host said the Keystone XL pipeline — which Obama’s State Department has yet to approve despite widespread support for its construction — amounted to "the most significant economic development in this country over the next 20 years."

"When it comes to the energy revolution that is already upon us, Democrats are laughably out of touch with most Americans," said Scarborough, a former Florida congressman.

Even as the current natural gas boom helps to wean the country off foreign oil, and with Keystone promising even greater energy independence, Democrats remain cowed by their allies and campaign donors in the environmental movement, Scarborough suggested.

He contrasted that with former President Clinton, a Democrat, wanting to see the pipeline built. "I think we should embrace it," Clinton told an Energy Department conference in February.

Instead, the State Department announced last month that a decision would be delayed indefinitely, even after its own studies suggested the pipeline’s environmental impact would minimal. The editorial page of The Washington Post called that announcement "absurd."

"The United States continues to insult its Canadian allies by holding up what should have been a routine permitting decision amid a funhouse-mirror environmental debate that got way out of hand," the Post wrote. "The president should end this national psychodrama now, bow to reason, approve the pipeline, and go do something more productive for the climate."
