President Barack Obama’s choice for his fourth chief of staff in three years may not sit well with organized labor, reports DailyCaller.com.

The new chief, former budget director Jack Lew, is known to have successfully broken up a labor union in 2004 when he was vice president of operations for New York University. When the graduate-student union threatened to strike, Lew refused to recognize the union, and eventually the university followed suit.

“For months, the campus witnessed loud demonstrations as graduate students went on strike,” wrote Rick Manning of Americans for Limited Government. “Demonstrators held up ‘wanted’ posters of Lew and set up a large inflatable rat near Lew’s office. Various union bosses traveled to the campus, and even Jesse Jackson visited to participate in the protests.”

The university, led by Lew, then “broke the strike by unilaterally setting terms of employment for graduate students, refusing to negotiate with the union and raising the stakes for strikers,” wrote Manning.
