The Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank, launched its own news site to cover "unreported or underreported" news.

The influential policy organization, which already has its own political arm, Heritage Action, plans to use the Daily Signal to highlight daily news stories that aren't covered by other outlets, The Washington Post reported.

"Our sense is there are a lot of really good stories that go unreported or underreported," Geoff Lysaught, the site's publisher and Heritage's vice president of strategic communications, told the Post. "Our whole role here is to make sure that the facts find their way into the light."

It's debut on Tuesday features an exclusive report by former CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson about government-funded medical research on premature babies, and possible violations by researchers of federal requirements on informed consent.

Attkisson has signed on to the Daily Signal as senior independent contributor after resigning from CBS earlier this year citing difficulties about getting her stories on the air, and concerns about political bias, Politico reported.

The Signal will have a staff of 12 journalists and a budget of $1 million a year, according to the Post. While the organization acknowledged that there is already a crowded field of news sites carrying a conservative news slant, it hopes to feed stories into areas of the mainstream media.

"We want to see a world where Fox, MSNBC, CNN, The Washington Post, and the New York Times are reporting on the things that were first reported on the Daily Signal," Lysaught said.

The site plans to cover the topics on Heritage's policy agenda, including Obamacare,  Common Core education standards, Benghazi, and cronyism, according to the Post.

The Daily Signal will replace the Heritage blog, Foundry, with the expectation it will take with it the roughly 2.6 million unique visitors the site had last month.
