HealthCare.gov went down Tuesday for at least 30 minutes, which was caused by "human error," not too much traffic, according to the Health and Human Services department.

"The issue was not related to volume," Joanne Peters, a HHS spokeswoman, told Politico. "We have a waiting room system in place to deploy should volume reach high levels. That system has not been needed today."

The website stopped working after noon, and was back up and running by 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The error occurred when users tried to access the "Log In" page, with a message saying that the problems were due to "technical difficulties."

HealthCare.gov has largely functioned without many problems since December, after its troubled rollout in October.

HHS reported an increase in signups on Monday, as the Obamacare open enrollment date nears on March 31, bringing the number of people who have signed up for health insurance through one of the government exchanges to 5 million people total.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid, which oversees HealthCare.gov, reported 4 million visits last week and 1 million during the weekend.

"The last several days have been the busiest since December, with the Call Center taking more than 198,000 calls on Thursday alone — the busiest day since Dec. 23 — and more than 130,000 calls over the weekend," Marilyn Tavenner, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid administrator, wrote in a blog post, according to Politico.
