Ohio Girl Invites NFL Star to Prom — and He Accepts

Sunday, 13 May 2012 10:43 AM

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – An 18-year-old senior who was stood up by her prom date took a chance on Twitter — and won the night of a lifetime.

After Joyce Grendel's prom date backed out, before the big dance, the Ohio teen decided to ask someone else: Joe Haden, cornerback for the Cleveland Browns, television station Fox 8 in Cleveland reports.

Grendel, a Haden fanatic, follows him on Twitter, where she has sent him encouraging messages. "She’s been a really good Haden Nation supporter," Haden told Fox 8.

Grendel's tweet to Haden “just said, ‘Hey Joe, would you consider going to my senior prom with me because my date backed out and didn’t go,’ ” she told Fox 8. An hour later he tweeted back, saying he accepted.

On Saturday, Haden — in his white Lamborghini — escorted Grendel to her prom, Fox 8 reports.

Haden, 23, says the night was special to him too.

He never got to go to his own prom.
