A New York couple has been arrested for having a cache of weapons and a bomb-making explosive in their Greenwich Village apartment, police said.
According to authorities, Morgan Gliedman, 27, who is nine months pregnant, and Aaron Greene, 31, the father of her child, were arrested on Saturday and also had instructions on making bombs.
One set of papers had a cover sheet entitled, “The Terrorist Encyclopedia,’’ the New York Post
Gliedman is the daughter of prominent New York City physician Paul Gliedman. He is director of radiation oncology at the Brooklyn division of Beth Israel Hospital, the Post reports.
Greene is a Harvard University graduate and an Occupy Wall Street activist, the Post reports. Those familiar with Greene told the Post that his political views were “extreme.”
New York City police found the weapons in the couple’s apartment on West Ninth Street in the Village when they went there to arrest Gliedman for alleged credit-card theft, the Post reports.
In the home, a detective found a plastic container with seven grams of a white chemical powder called HMTD, a highly explosive organic compound that led authorities to evacuate several nearby buildings, along with a flare launcher, a modified 12-gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun, ammunition and nine high-capacity rifle magazines, the Post reports.
Authorities also allegedly uncovered papers about creating homemade booby traps, improvised submachine guns, and various handwritten notebooks containing chemical formulas.
