The dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial has been rescheduled for Oct. 16.

The original dedication planned for Aug. 27 had to be called off due to Hurricane Irene, The Washington Post reports.

Ed Jackson Jr., the monument’s executive architect, told the Post the ceremony will “absolutely . . . definitely” be Oct. 16, beginning at 11 a.m.

The program may undergo some changes, and organizers are working to reconfirm speakers and entertainers.

The $120 million memorial opened to the public on Aug. 22. It is situated on land near the Tidal Basin, between the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, and is close to the Washington Monument and the memorial to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The MLK memorial was 26 years in the making, according to the Post.
