As Congress and the Obama administration struggle to find solutions to the nation’s healthcare crisis, they can take the Department of Veterans Affairs system as a model, says former Republican Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.

“Decision makers would do well to study the healthcare delivery system of the Department of Veterans Affairs,” he writes on Politico
. “To meet the challenges of the nation’s largest integrated health system, VA has developed strategic public-private partnerships that are crucial to its mission.”
The partnerships allow the VA to offer creative solutions, thanks partly to its use of sophisticated information technology and supply-management systems, says Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential nominee. “This has made VA more productive and better equipped to deliver the highest level of care to a group our nation has always honored: men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.”
