As Congress and the Obama administration struggle to find solutions to the nation’s healthcare crisis, they can take the Department of Veterans Affairs system as a model, says former Republican Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.

“Decision makers would do well to study the healthcare delivery system of the Department of Veterans Affairs,”
he writes on Politico. “To meet the challenges of the nation’s largest integrated health system, VA has developed strategic public-private partnerships that are crucial to its mission.”
The partnerships allow the VA to offer creative solutions, thanks partly to its use of sophisticated information technology and supply-management systems, says Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential nominee. “This has made VA more productive and better equipped to deliver the highest level of care to a group our nation has always honored: men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.”
