Neither former President Bush — George W. nor his father George H.W. — will attend President Barack Obama’s second inauguration on Monday.
The younger Bush cited his father’s health in sending his regrets on Friday, several officials with knowledge of inaugural planning told
ABC News.
Meanwhile, Bush 41, was only released from a Houston hospital this week after being treated for bronchitis and related ailments since late November.
As such, only former Democratic presidents will witness Obama taking his second oath of office — Jimmy Carter, who like George H.W. Bush is 88 years old, and Bill Clinton. Both plan to attend, ABC News reports.
“President and Mrs. Bush wish President Obama and his family all the best for a wonderful inaugural weekend,” said a spokesman from the George W. Bush’s office on Friday, ABC reports.
