Arsenio Hall says he doesn't think fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld should be judged for his recent comments that his Web series isn't diverse enough.

"We're barking up the wrong tree on this one – just because I know Jerry," Hall said Wednesday on CNN's "Piers Morgan Live." "Jerry Seinfeld's got more black friends than I do," said Hall, who is black.

Seinfeld sparked controversy in early February when asked about the lack of minorities and women in his Web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee."

"Everyone else is calculating, is this the exact right mix?" Seinfeld said at the time. "To me, it’s anti-comedy. It’s more about PC nonsense than are you making us laugh?"

Hall also told Morgan he doesn't care who uses the N-word, and that he uses it even with people who aren't black.

He talked about an interview between Richard Pryor and Johnny Carson in which Carson asked him about the offensiveness of the word. Carson actually used the word in the conversation, Hall said.

"He's talking to Richard Pryor about the word. And they're having a very intelligent conversation between two legend humorists," he said. "Now we're in 2014 and we can't say it. Careers are being ruined."

Hall said that no matter how offensive people find the term, he has to fight for people to be able to use language and words any way they want.

"America, that's what we're all about," Hall said. "So, even if it makes me cringe, I've got to fight for your right to say it because later I might need you to fight for my right, and I want to be judged on those same rules."
