Saturday, 14 May 2011 07:59 PM

PHIL CAMPBELL, Ala. (AP) — The first Alabama families have begun moving into new white FEMA trailers set up for tornado victims, near the storm-ravaged towns of Phil Campbell and Hackleburg.

Democratic state Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow of Red Bay said five families were moving Saturday into new trailers supplied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The first to move in was single mother Savannah Winney and her 2-year-old daughter, Kaylee. She is more than seven months pregnant.

Winney said the trailer is "remarkable." She told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that "everything in it is brand new. You can smell the new."

By FEMA rules, Winney can live in the trailer rent-free for up to 18 months.
