George Zimmerman was questioned Monday in connection with a domestic disturbance, and his estranged wife Shellie has decided not to press charges. Contrary to various reports and rumors, George Zimmerman apparently was not taken into custody and there was no gun.

Sobbing, Shellie Zimmerman called 911 around 2 p.m. on Monday and reportedly told police in Lake Mary, Fla., that Zimmerman was threatening her and her father with a gun and that she feared for her life.

"He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying 'step closer' and he’s just threatening all of us," Shellie Zimmerman said on the call. "I don't know what he's capable of. I'm really scared."

Hours after the frantic call, police converged at the Zimmermans' Orlando home after speaking to Shellie's attorney. She changed her story, Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell told The Associated Press.

She said she never saw a gun and that she and her father, whom she said Zimmerman had punched in the face, had no interest in pressing charges, said Bracknell.

Police later said they did not find a gun on Zimmerman's person.

Authorities let Zimmerman go after questioning him outside the home where Shellie Zimmerman placed the 911 call, USA Today reported.

Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce from Zimmerman last week, and she had come home with her father to gather her belongings on Monday. When she arrived, the three got into a dispute.

In the divorce petition, Shellie Zimmerman said she and her husband separated a month after Zimmerman was acquitted in July in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin last year. The acquittal sparked protests across the nation.

Since his acquittal on July 13, Zimmerman has made headlines several times. He reportedly helped a family escape from an overturned SUV in Seminole County, and he has been pulled over twice for speeding in Texas and in Florida.

Shellie Zimmerman plead guilty to perjury on Aug. 28 for lying about the couple's finances during a bond hearing in April 2012. She had claimed her and her husband were in poor financial shape, but in reality, they had collected about $135,000 in donations.
