The death of world-renowned motivational speaker and salesman Hilary Hinton “Zig” Ziglar no doubt has a lot of people thinking about how they have worked his wit, wisdom, and words into their own lives through the years.
Ziglar died Wednesday
near his home in Plano, Texas, after a short bout with pneumonia. He was 86.
“Our Friend, Mentor to Millions and Master Motivator Zig Ziglar passed peacefully from this world this morning. Angels are rejoicing and he is now speaking with Jesus,” a post on his Facebook page said.
Ziglar faced many hurdles and did not succeed early in life.
But his persistence in business, particularly salesmanship, led him to vast success as a motivator and public speaker. Throughout the publication of his dozens of books, along with day-long motivational events held to sold-out arenas around the world, he became a remarkably quotable source of witticisms.
Here are some of his best-known quotes:
“You can have everything in life that you want if you just help enough other people get what they want.”
“Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.”
“The great majority of people are ‘wandering generalities’ rather than ‘meaningful specifics.’ The fact is that you can't hit a target that you can't see. If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else. You have to have goals.”
“Failure is an event not a person.”
“You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
“Life is too short to spend your precious time trying to convince a person who wants to live in gloom and doom otherwise. Give lifting that person your best shot, but don't hang around long enough for his or her bad attitude to pull you down. Instead, surround yourself with optimistic people.”
“A goal properly set is halfway reached.”
