William Shatner’s movie "Shatner's World" will open Thursday, April 24 for one night only in select theaters across the country.

The one-man show, which the New York Post called “more entertaining than it has any right to be,” is based on Shatner’s 90-minute show, “Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It” which he performed on Broadway and around the country.

The show is just Shatner, best-known for his role as Captain Kirk in “Star Trek,” sharing honest, sometimes tough stories about his life.

Shatner talks about his disillusionment with his “Star Trek” role until he saw Patrick Stewart take on the captain part in the second series.

"I have a lot of respect for Patrick Stewart, and [it was seeing] the gravitas that this great Shakespearean actor gave to his role that I suddenly realized that this guy is taking Capt. Picard every bit as seriously as Macbeth," Shatner told NPR. "And I used to. And I stopped. And what the hell's the matter with me? It was a great piece of work. Everybody contributed to it for three years, and it has lasted 50. It's a phenomenon. Why aren't I proud of it? And that's when I had a moment."

Such revelations are just part and parcel of the honesty to be found in Shatner’s production.

He told Fox411 that he talks about a “great many things. ... I talk about love, I talk about comedy. I talk about hate. I talk about motorcycles. ... It goes on and yet I’ve been able to characterize it so that it evokes laughter or tears or both, or knowledge, or some appreciation of the variety of subjects.”
