Though watermelon cookies may not sound like an enticing flavor combination, Oreo has unveiled its newest limited-edition summer offering that has junk food fans everywhere cheering.
Watermelon Oreos hit store shelves June 10, but are available only at Target for $3 a package. The treats feature pink and green watermelon-flavored creme sandwiched between two vanilla Oreo cookies.

"We chose Watermelon because it is a fun, summer flavor
that goes great with the Golden Oreo cookie," Oreo spokesperson Kimberly Fontes told Time.
So far, Watermelon Oreos are getting rave reviews.
"These didn't overwhelm me with artificial (well, overly artificial) watermelon flavor," wrote the snack blogger known as Junk Food Guy in a review of the new flavor. "Instead the immediate taste I got was a watermelon taste that tasted like, frankly, it had been blended with creme. I'll just say it right off the bat… I liked these. A LOT."
"The vanilla cookies take up most of the space on the flavor profile pie chart. Seventy-five percent or so," wrote a reviewer at FoodJunk.com. "But it's the subtlety of the cream that makes the cookie work as a whole.
Too much watermelon, and the effort would be a mess."
This isn't the Oreo's first foray into foreign flavor territory. Past limited editions include gingerbread, candy corn, dulce de leche, birthday cake, and Creamsicle.
Besides, odd pairings seem to be the newest junk food trend. Last year, Pringles sold White Chocolate Peppermint and Pumpkin Spice potato chips. Walkers, a U.K. potato chip brand, has featured every flavor from shrimp cocktail and lamb and mint,
to steak and onion and chili and chocolate.
