A Utah trucker accused of kidnapping women and turning them into his sex slaves, all the while beating, raping, and forcing them to change their appearances,  appeared in court this week, four months after his arrest.

The 54-year-old trucker, Timothy Jay Vafeades, was arrested in November after police at a weigh station in Clay County, Minn., noticed one of his alleged sex slaves with bruises on her face, The Associated Press reported. On Wednesday, Vafeades made an initial appearance in a U.S. District Court in Fargo, N.D.

Vafeades has been charged with kidnapping, transportation for illegal sexual activity, and possession of child pornography, which could bring a life sentence if he's convicted. The trucker is reportedly scheduled to be transferred to Utah for further proceedings.

The bruised victim initially spotted with Vafeades was reportedly a 19-year-old female relative who, according to an arrest warrant filed Tuesday in Salt Lake City, had traveled from Florida in May of 2013 to work with him on his truck, the "Twilight Express," the AP noted.

The unidentified teen reportedly told Vafeades that she wanted to return home within a week of her arrival, at which time the trucker allegedly choked her until she passed out.

Over the following six months of her confinement, Vafeades allegedly beat the teenager repeatedly, raped her more than 100 times, forced her to cut her hair short and alter her appearance so that authorities would not recognize her since she had been missing for so long.

Following Vafeades' arrest on Nov. 26, another woman contacted police and claimed the Utah trucker had also held her captive.

According to Vafeades' arrest warrant, the second victim said she met the truck driver in April 2012 at a truck stop in Salt Lake City. Following their dinner together, she agreed to go back to Vafeades' cab with him but, once on the road, Vafeades allegedly told her that she was not going to leave him.

Over the next three months, Vafeades allegedly raped the woman on a daily basis, called her his slave, and held her captive with frequent threats and violence. Much like the 19-year-old, the second victim told police that she, too, was forced to cut her hair and alter her appearance.

Both women also told police the Utah trucker shaved down their teeth with a drill. The 19-year-old said Vafeades had ordered her a pair of false teeth and told officials that Vafeades wore a pair of vampire-like fangs while interacting with her, according to the AP.
