Hopes were high for the Los Angeles high school student who invited Kate Upton to his prom via a viral YouTube video last week, but it looks like the supermodel will be too busy to make Jake Davidson's dreams come true.

Davidson's hilarious and endearing YouTube invitation has racked up more than 1.8 million views since it was posted last week and it looked like, at first, perhaps Upton, 20, had been persuaded by his charm.

"You had me at hello," Davidson, 17, says in the video. "You're the ying to my yang. I'm Jewish, 5-foot-9 on a really good day, and I can't dance at all. You're Christian, 5-foot-10, and that Cat Daddy video should have won an Oscar for Best Short Film. You could say this is destiny."

Davidson then does some pushups to try and impress Upton, before giving a Ferris Bueller-esque monologue in the shower.

"Kate. Can I call u Katie? OK, Kate works. Great moments are born from great opportunity, and that's what you have here today a chance to make a nice guy's senior year, the best ever. We can ride around all night long — until 11, that's my curfew. But really, it would mean the world to me if you came."

It seemed the stars had aligned Wednesday when Davidson appeared on the "Today" show to discuss his prom proposal and got a big surprise when Upton herself phoned in to respond to him.

"You seem like so much fun and if everything works out I'd love to go with you," Upton said. "I know we'd have a blast."

But now Upton tells People magazine that she probably won't be able to make it after all because of her busy schedule.

"I'm not sure if I'll be able to go with him or not, due to my schedule," she told People. "I want to, but I just don't know if I can make it work. But I really appreciated being asked; it made me feel really great!"
