A new Twitter button will let users "mute" people they don't want to see without taking the more permanent step of unfollowing them.
Twitter product manager Paul Rosania announced Monday on a blog
that the new mute feature would roll out for all users over the next few weeks for users on iPhone, Android, and web platforms.

“In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a Tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less,” Rosania said. “Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user.”
Using the mute button for people who may be boring you to tears with endless tweets is being billed online as a step above unfollowing, which would remove them from your Twitter account.
The advent of a Twitter mute button was greeted warmly.
Others joked about the feelings of insecurity that crop up, knowing they may be muted on the other end of their tweets.
Several tweets appeared online from people saying their “mute” button wasn’t there and an informal survey found that some using the website connection still didn’t have the mute option. Click here to see how to mute
