Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before a House and Senate hearing
on Wednesday on the militant attack that left four U.S. citizens dead at the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
Clinton appeared flustered as well as fierce at times as Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., drilled her with a series of questions. She insisted that the department is moving swiftly and aggressively to strengthen security at U.S. missions worldwide after the deadly Sept. 11 raid.
Clinton took full responsibility for the department's missteps leading to the assault at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in what is likely her last appearance on Capitol Hill as the nation's top diplomat.
She said she never saw the requests for additional security for the U.S. mission in Benghazi because they were handled by other State Department officials and normally would not reach her level, according to The Associated Press.
As Johnson fired inquiries at her, she said in an exasperated, defensive way, "What difference at this point does it make?”
At one point, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul even told Clinton he would have fired her for her performance.
On Twitter, some users sided with Johnson and Paul.
Others defended Clinton.
Yet most users tried to tie a connection between this testimony and that of President Bill Clinton’s during his impeachment trial.
And, as always, many users simply made a joke of the testimony.
