Hurricane Dalila has been deemed a tropical depression by the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami this week, as Tropical Storm Erick picks up near the Mexican coast.

Erick is expected to reach hurricane strength by Saturday, with current winds of nearly 45 mph as it passes southwest of Acapulco, Mexico.

After forming in the Pacific yesterday, Erick is presently 145 miles southwest of Acapulco. The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 13 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical storm warning is in effect on the southwestern Mexican coast from Lazaro Cardenas to Manzanillo, the Associated Press reported.

Despite warnings, the storm is expected to remain offshore.

Meanwhile, former Hurricane Dalila has weakened to a tropical depression in the eastern Pacific late Thursday, the AP reported.

Having maxed out at 75 mph winds early Wednesday, Dalila has since drifted from Mexico's coastline, southwestward in the Pacific.

Despite decreasing in scope on Thursday, there are life-threatening surf and rip current conditions on Mexico's southwestern coast, the AP noted.
