Trish Staine said that pain comes with the territory when someone is training for a half marathon but she admitted the pain she felt Sunday after training was unbearable and checked into a Duluth, Minn., hospital the next day.

To Staine's surprise, she found out she was running for two. Staine gave birth to a baby girl at Essentia Health St. Mary's Center Birthing Center on Monday.

Staine told WDIO-TV she had no idea she was pregnant until emergency room personnel told her at the hospital after checking in Monday.

"In the ER, they found a fetal heartbeat," Staine said. "I was like, no, no, no. There's no way I'm pregnant. But they rushed me up to the Birthing Center, and five minutes after I got into my room, she was born."

The news left her self-admittedly verbose husband John nearly speechless.

"I just didn’t have anything to say," John Staine told the Duluth News Tribune. "It takes a lot to shock me. It was like a dream. I wanted to make sure it was real."

Trish was training for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on Grandma's Marathon weekend coming up June 22. She took a two-hour run up and down hilly Glenwood Street. A feat now made more impressive that she was about to give birth.

She took over-the-counter medication for back pain after the run. When the pain became worse the next day, she checked into – and surprise, her little girl was delivered at 6 pounds, 6 ounces.

"She's got low blood sugar, but she's healthy," Trish Staine told WDIO-TV. "I didn't gain any weight. I had my period. I had no idea."

Trish and John Staine have two biological kids and two foster kids before the new arrival. They run the Genesis Project, a transitional foster care program for young men between ages 17 and 21.

John Staine said neither of Trish’s first pregnancies, obviously, compared to the one the couple never knew about. Trish Staine said she has seen the shows about women who don't know they're pregnant and then give birth, and she said she was skeptical of them. But after what happened to her, now said, "I'm a believer."
