A small town in Utah is still reeling from the death of a 9-year-old girl who was sitting on a trampoline that suddenly was blown some 50 yards by a freak gust of wind.
The Deseret News says Oaklee Sidwell apparently fell from the trampoline
before it hit the ground.

The accident happened Tuesday. Oaklee was on the trampoline putting on her shoes after other children had gotten off. A strong gust came rushing down, carrying the girl and trampoline away. She was taken to a hospital, then flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where she died of her injuries on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department said nothing could have been done to prevent the accident. The trampoline was put together properly and a safety net was attached.
“All the precautions to have a safe trampoline for children to play on were met,” said spokeswoman Cheryl Church, the Deseret News reported. “It was just a freak type thing that happened here, that the wind would come along and pick it up and carry her away.”
She added: “This is a tragedy that has affected the entire county. We are so saddened and deeply sorry for what has happened.”
An obituary for the little girl read
: “Oaklee was here with us for nine wonderful years and was so full of life. She lived it to the fullest and shared her happiness with everyone around her. She loved to do so many things: riding, motorcycles, fishing, camping, hunting, frog hunting, shooting her BB gun, soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, playing with all her cousins and friends, sheep riding, riding horses, farming, to shopping trips with her mom.”
“She brought a special spirit with her wherever she went and impacted so many people’s lives in the short time she was with us.”
Funeral services were held Saturday.
