Four people were injured, one critically, after being stabbed at a Toronto office building Wednesday morning.

The suspect, a 45-year-old employee in the building, was taken into custody, according to CBC News. He was subdued by employees until police arrived.

CBC reported that Ceridian, the parent company of Dayforce, released a statement Wednesday afternoon: "At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, four Ceridian employees were attacked by a former employee at our Toronto office."

The weapon used in the attack wasn’t confirmed, but may have been scissors, according to Reuters.

Toronto Police Detective Dan Darnbrough told the Toronto Sun that the weapon may have been a knife.

“What I can tell you is it was a sharp instrument, probably a knife,” he said.

Two of the victims have life-threatening injuries, according to the Toronto Sun.

The fifth floor of the building on the city’s north side was locked down, and investigators were uncertain of a motive. The building, which houses several businesses, is next door to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation headquarters, the newspaper reported.

Tony Bitonti, a spokesman for that organization, told the Tornoto Sun that he saw two men outside being attended to by paramedics.

“I didn’t know what was going on until I walked outside,” he said. “All I know is there was a stabbing in one of the offices next door.”

CBC News shared tweets about the incident on its website.
