"I've been a police officer 19 years, and this is the craziest thing I've ever seen," John Garland, with the Teaneck Police Department, told NBC New York
. "They're learning the hard way that it's not too funny," he added of the senior prank.
The school district will determine whether the students involved will be punished further. The damage to the building wasn’t permanent and was cleaned up in a few hours.
“I didn’t take part because I knew the consequences I was going to face,” senior Mohamed Beretey told NJ.com. “I’m a football player, I’m an athlete, so I didn’t want my scholarships taken away from me.”
Two students who were arrested told NJ.com that they’re trying to get copies of the school security video to prove that they were doing relatively harmless things like blowing up balloons and moving desks around.
At least one photo of the prank surfaced online.
The fact that some students urinated in the halls appalled some.
