Students Rally Behind Perry Presidential Bid

Tuesday, 09 Aug 2011 01:13 PM

College students are pushing for Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry to run for the White House in 2012, according to DailyCaller.com. The national coalition Students for Rick Perry now claims 25 state chapters and a growing social media presence.

“We are working to build the grassroots support and infrastructure so that when Governor Perry announces, we will be ready to join forces with his campaign,” said Joe Knowles, a senior at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and co-chairman of the coalition.

While Perry has denied that he intends to run for president, the Washington Post reports that he will likely announce a White House bid soon after the release of the Iowa Straw Poll over the weekend.

The newspaper cites an email from a Perry backer that suggests campaign supporters are collecting campaign contributions.
