Steve Perry, the former frontman for the band "Journey," has recently revealed that he underwent surgery for melanoma, after having a cancerous growth removed from his face in May.

"Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer," Perry wrote in a post on his official blog on June 6. "I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."

In December, the 64-year-old Perry lost his girlfriend, Kelly Nash, to breast cancer that eventually spread to her brain.

The former rocker became aware of Nash while watching his friend edit a Lifetime movie titled "Five," which showcased the struggles of five women battling cancer.

Perry says Nash's smile in the movie was what initially attracted him to her.

The rocker proceeded to ask his friend to ask Nash is she'd be interested in going out for a cup of coffee, while at the time knowing Nash was no longer in remission and had Stage 4 cancer.

The two soon met and a relationship ensued.

"We started seeing each other and Yes, we both knew that we were meant to be together," Perry wrote in his blog. "My life was forever changed in ways I will explain at another time but it was all because of my Kellie . . . I never felt like this before....... I had finally found her."

As her cancer worsened, the pair relocated to New York City last year, where Nash underwent a new type of treatment to improve her quality of life and sustain it as long as possible.

Nash succumbed to her cancer on Dec. 14.

"She was so strong, so courageous and we really loved each other so very much," Perry continued on his blog. "I've been trying to grieve and not run from this loss so for the last 5 months that's what I've been doing along with recalling everything being in Love with Kellie taught me."

Perry concluded his blog entry writing: "Though Kellie and I were only together for 1 and 1/2 years, it was a lifetime of love packed into every moment."
