Lorna Colbert, the mother of comedian Stephen Colbert, has passed away at the age of 92.
Stephen Colbert often referenced his mother in his “The Colbert Report” show on Comedy Central. In February, after inexplicably canceling two episodes, he returned to the air with a message for a “very special lady,” saying, “Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails

After his mother died Wednesday, Colbert canceled Thursday’s show to be with his family.
Stephen Colbert is the youngest of 11 children. His sister Elizabeth Colbert Bush is the Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District seat in South Carolina.
Two of their siblings, along with their father, died in a tragic plane crash in 1974.
WISTV reported Lorna Colbert’s obituary described her as “an adored wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
.” She was the matriarch of a family of 82.
The obituary also said she was an artist, church leader, businesswoman, and supporter of the arts.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by James A. McAlister Funeral Home in in Charleston, S.C. All services will be private.
Donations can be made to the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation for the Dr. James W. Colbert Endowment Fund.
