Pennsylvania State Police are apparently allowing a convicted sexual predator who molested a young teen to register his permanent address as a suburban Philadelphia park where children play, angering a local police chief.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, 30-year-old Steven Sherlock, who pleaded guilty in 2003 to the aggravated indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl and was sentenced to two to four years in prison, is using Naylor's Run Park in Upper Darby as his home address under Megan's Law, which requires him to register as a sex offender.

"It's absolutely insane," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. "The state police should have asked him what bench he was sleeping on so we could find him."

Chitwood said hundreds of children and their families use the park, and the YMCA brings children there to play during the day.

"Any type of activity you can imagine kids are doing there, and this nut is living there?" the police chief said. "The craziness of the state in their infinite wisdom to allow a sexual predator to use a park as his address makes absolutely no sense."

Chitwood said anyone living within 250 feet of the park has been notified of Sherlock's so-called residency, the Inquirer reported. Schools and daycare centers also located nearby have been informed as well.

The police chief added that Sherlock hasn’t actually been spotted in the park so far. But he said if he's seen there at night he'll be arrested since the township's parks are closed to everyone after dark.
