Americans took to Twitter Wednesday to post touching tributes to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that took down the Twin Towers and killed 3,000 people.

Many of the posts, tagged with things like #NeverForget, #september 11, and #GodBlessAmerica, featured emotional images of the former New York City skyline and the World Trade Center towers.
