“Avatar” actor Sam Worthington has been arrested on an assault charge after reportedly punching a photographer in New York’s Greenwich Village, TMZ reports
The 37-year-old Australian actor allegedly punched the photographer, Sheng Li, early Sunday night after Li allegedly kicked Worthington’s girlfriend, Lara Bingle, in the shin.

TMZ says that Worthington and Bingle were walking out of a restaurant when paparazzi photographers “went all Bruce Lee on Bingle for some reason” and Worthington defended her, allegedly punching Li in the face.
Li has been arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, assault, and harassment and is being held pending arraignment. Worthington, released on a desk appearance ticket, is expected to be back in court on Wednesday.
Worthington was arrested in Atlanta in November 2012 after getting into an argument with a bouncer at the Vortex Bar and Grill. However, disorderly conduct charges were dismissed after the bouncer, who had allegedly pepper-sprayed Worthington, didn’t appear in court.
At that time, TMZ reported that Worthington didn’t have the proper identification
to get into the Vortex and he claimed to be a DEA agent. He was in Atlanta shooting the action film “Ten,” playing the role of a DEA agent with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Worthington has also starred in the “Wrath of the Titans” and “Man on a Ledge,” which both came out in 2012.
