Sabine Lisicki is the young blonde beauty who shocked the world by beating five-time champion Serena Williams at Wimbledon this week.

Though not a household name like the Williams sisters, Lisicki, 23, has been a pro since 2006, according to Wikipedia, making it to the quarter-finals in Wimbledon in 2009 and the semifinals in 2011.

Lisicki’s bio on the Women’s Tennis Association site says she started playing tennis at age 7 and was coached by her dad. Her favorite shot is the serve, and she plays well on all surfaces.

Lisicki has a Yorkshire Terrier named Happy, which pretty well describes Lisicki herself, whom the site describes as “happy, hardworking, and someone who laughs a lot."

Lisicki tweeted her excitement over winning while adding a gracious compliment to her rival:

Lisicki’s website says she trained at the prestigious Nick Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and made history in 2009 when she became the lowest-ranked player to win the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C.

The site says she likes pop and R&B music and reading and admires tennis great Andre Agassi. It also says her favorite book is Lance Armstrong’s autobiography with the now-ironic title “It’s Not About the Bike.”

YouTube has a video of a smiling, laughing Lisicki the day after she won the Aegon Classic tournament in Birmingham, England.

“I still can’t really believe it,” she says, flashing a toothy smile.

Prior to the tournament she had spent seven weeks on crutches with an ankle injury, and ankle problems had kept her sidelined for much of the year.
