Switzerland’s government is unhappy with the way the Obama campaign has inserted Swiss bank accounts into its campaign ads, Politico reports.

The ads attack presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his foreign holdings, which include assets in Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, and Bermuda.

And just Monday, Obama said in a press conference, "that may be perfectly legal, but I suspect if you ask the average American, do you have [a Swiss bank account] and is that part of how you manage your tax obligations, they would say no."

The Swiss embassy "has communicated with the Obama campaign headquarters to object to the ads giving the impression that simply having a Swiss bank account means that the accountholder is trying to hide money from the IRS," embassy spokeswoman Salome Ramseier told Politico.
