Donald Trump says a negative ad created by President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign depicting Mitt Romney as a job killer is “extremely unfair” because it omits some important details.

“I think that ad was extremely unfair,” the billionaire businessman and Romney supporter said Monday night on Fox News’ “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” “And it’s really the topic of a lot of conversation right now. It was a very, very unfair ad.”
The ad, which questions Romney’s time as a private equities executive at Bain Capital, accuses the presumptive Republican presidential nominee of helping to orchestrate the closing of a GS Technologies steel mill in 2001 that put 750 people out of work.

But Trump said it omits the fact that Romney left Bain in 1999 and that in 2001 a lot of mills were hurt by the dumping of cheaper steel on the U.S. market.

“It’s certainly getting very nasty. And I would say, perhaps, on both sides,” Trump said, acknowledging that the Romney campaign team is running its share of negative ads as well.

“But [former Massachusetts] Gov. Romney did a great job at Bain, not only in terms of producing jobs but in terms of creating and saving companies,” Trump added.

Still, Trump called the Obama ad “very compelling” as a “class warfare” campaign tool because it uses former employees to paint a picture of Romney and other Bain executives as rich people who failed to take care of the companies and workers who made them rich.

However, Trump says he believes voters are getting tired of the negative ads and want real answers to serious questions, especially from Obama.

“I think people are tired of it now. They want jobs. They want real thinking. And they’re not getting that from this administration,” he said.
