Now that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney appears to have the nomination locked up, some of the biggest donors to super PACs supporting the more conservative candidates are falling back into the establishment fold.

That includes heavyweights such as casino/hotel mogul Sheldon Adelson and money management titan Foster Friess, Politico reports. The billionaire Adelson and his family kept Newt Gingrich’s campaign afloat virtually single-handedly, donating more than $16 million to the super PAC supporting the House speaker.

And Friess played a huge role in sustaining the Santorum campaign with contributions of $1.7 million to the super PAC backing the former Pennsylvania senator.

But now donors like Adelson and Friess are shifting their focus. Adelson and his wife Miriam shelled out $5 million to a super PAC linked to House Speaker John Boehner in February. And Adelson is hosting a fundraiser next week for a Boehner umbrella group tied closely to the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to Politico.

As for Friess, he told the news service last week that he plans to back groups supporting Romney.

Meanwhile, several wealthy supporters of former presidential candidate Rick Perry are offering six- and seven-figure contributions to super PACs supporting Romney and establishment Republican candidates.
