New Romney Ad Features Bill Clinton’s Dig against Obama

Thursday, 06 Sep 2012 04:29 PM

A new television ad from the Romney campaign centers on criticism former President Bill Clinton laid on current President Barack Obama four years ago.

The spot thus seeks to take the shine off the growing alliance between the two Democrats. Clinton’s speech at the party’s convention Wednesday drew high praise, with politicos saying he laid out a better case for Obama’s candidacy than the president has himself.

Story continues below.

As for the ad, it begins with the narrator saying, “As the economy gets worse, Barack Obama calls on Bill Clinton to help his failing campaign.”

Then comes a snippet from a recent Obama TV ad featuring the former Arkansas governor. “It’s about which candidate is more likely to return us to full employment,” Clinton says.

The narrator then returns, saying, “He’s a good soldier helping his party’s president, but what did Bill Clinton say about Barack Obama in 2008?”

The ad then shows Clinton speaking on behalf of his wife’s presidential campaign against Obama in January 2008. “Give me a break,” Clinton said. “This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen.” He was referring to Obama's allegation that he was consistent in opposing the Iraq war, unlike Hillary Clinton.

The Romney camp has put out several ads and Internet videos this summer sporting past comments from both Clintons against Obama.
