Richard Viguerie Offers $10,000 Prize for the Right Conservative Strategy

Wednesday, 20 Feb 2013 01:40 PM

By Michael Mullins

Conservative strategist and writer Richard Viguerie is offering a $10,000 cash prize to someone who can present a successful strategy for conservatives to overcome establishment Republicans and become the driving force behind the GOP in future elections.

"The Liberty Prize" encourges applicants to submit either a complete plan or bullet points outlining an overall strategy for limited-government, constitutional conservatives to outmaneuver and defeat establishment big government Republicans.

Viguerie will determine which plan is the best and who deserves the $10,000 prize. The winner will be recognized at ConservativeHQ.com, where Viguerie is the chairman, and be invited to private meetings and public appearances connected with the conservative movement.

The contest accompanies a book Viguerie is writing, entitled "Takeover," in which he argues that the real political conflict in the United States is not between political parties, but rather ideologies.

In "The Liberty Prize" description, Viguerie writes:

"The focus of the book is one of the most important political battles in American history – and this battle is not between Republicans and Democrats or between Liberals and Conservatives… it is inside the Republican Party."

"For the 100 years this battle for the soul of the Republican Party has been raging, conservatives have often been blamed for Republican defeats, including the 2012 debacle, despite the fact that, while substantial majorities of Americans back conservative positions on the growth of government, balancing the budget, and traditional values, conservatives have been excluded consistently from the leadership of the Republican Party."

"As the second decade of the 21st Century advances, it has become clear that establishment Republican and Democratic politicians have failed America because they have both accepted big government as the solution to every problem.”

Viguerie, 79, is known for his pioneering direct mail political fundraising, which for years gave Republicans a campaigning advantage until Democrats advances in social media surpassed Republican efforts.

In his pitch to inventive, innovative conservatives, Viguerie writes:

"My goal is to generate a real 'bottom up' grassroots movement with this project."

Applicants who submit "serious ideas or a plan for conservatives to take over the Republican Party" will receive a free autographed copy of Viguerie's book "Conservatives Betrayed : How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause."

All plans and ideas must be received by March 8.
