Ray Jasper was executed in Texas on Wednesday after the former rapper was sentenced to death for slashing the throat of a recording studio owner to steal his equipment in 1998.

Jasper's case gained notoriety this year after the 33-year-old wrote a letter to Gawker about life on death row and followed it with another on the justice system.

Jasper was one of three men found guilty in the multiple stabbing death of David Alejandro in November 1998. Jasper received the death sentence for the crime while codefendants Steve Russell and Douglas Williams are both serving life sentences.

No one from Alejandro's family attended the execution because they don't believe in the death penalty, the Express-News reported. Eddie Alejandro Jr., David Alejandro's brother, told the newspaper that his deceased sibling was a conservative and the only person in the family who believed in the death penalty.

In a written statement, Eddie Alejandro Jr. called Jasper a "sociopath" and added that Jasper's mother "did not deserve this."

"Years of happiness were wiped away in one night for me," Eddie Alejandro Jr. said in his statement, the Express-News reported. "He might as well have dug the cold knife in me, too. Cause he murdered my heart that night."

In his letter to Gawker, Jasper deflected the blame of David Alejandro's death to his codefendants, saying he did not deliver the blows that killed the studio owner.

"I'm on death row and yet I didn't commit the act of murder," Jasper said. "I was convicted under the law of parties. When people read about the case, they assume I killed the victim, but the facts are undisputed that I did not kill the victim. The one who killed him plead guilty to capital murder for a life sentence. ... I'm criminally responsible for someone else's conduct."

Jasper admitted during in his 2000 court testimony to cutting David Alejandro's throat with a kitchen knife, but has claimed his wounds to the studio owner were not the cause of death. He charged on the witness stand that the 25 stab wounds by his codefendants caused Alejandro's death.
