Queen Latifah is heading back to the Super Bowl for an encore performance of “America the Beautiful.”
Latifah, who officiated over the marriages of 33 couples at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, will help kick off the pregame show along with opera singer Renee Fleming, who will sing the National Anthem.
Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform during the halftime extravaganza.

During a news conference four years ago when it was announced that she would sing “America The Beautiful” at the 2010’s Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, Latifah said, “You feel like when you sing 'America The Beautiful' or the national anthem, you feel like you are representing America, so you just want to show up. You want to show up, and want to do a great job because you also know that everyone in that crowd is passionate about our country.”
Latifah, whose real name is Dana Elaine Owens, was born in New Jersey and grew up in East Orange.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for rain and snow showers the night before the big game, with temperatures reaching a high near 38 degrees under mostly cloudy skies on Super Sunday. That’s quite an improvement compared to current conditions. Snow was likely Tuesday night, with lows dropping to a bone-chilling 12 degrees.
Security during the event will be extensive. CNN reported there will be more than 700 troopers in and around MetLife Stadium
, along with an additional 3,000 private security guards.
“The proximity of the stadium to waterways and railways will mean extra Coast Guard boats on game day and more planes from federal agencies in the sky equipped with infrared and night-vision systems,” CNN wrote.
