When it comes to popular puppy names, the top male monikers for 2013 may sound familiar. That’s because they stayed the same while the top female names changed slightly.

According to Vetstreet, the Top 10 most popular male puppy names remain unchanged from last year, with the Top 5 in the exact same spots as last year. Starting with No. 1, the names are: Max, Buddy, Charlie, Rocky, and Cooper. Buddy has held the top spot for eight years.

For female puppies, the Top 4 names for the eighth year in a row are Bella, Daisy, Lucy, and Molly. Sadie is No. 5 on the 2013 list.

The most popular names on Vetstreet's database of 925,000 puppies born since Jan. 1 reflect owners’ preferences for using classic and human pet names.

Rounding out the Top 10 list for male names are Duke, Bear, Jack, Bentley, and Toby. The list of names in the sixth to 10th spots for females are Sophie, Lola, Chloe, Zoey, and Maggie.

Commenters on the article weighed in with their own names.

“My big black lab came with his name. We drove a hour to meet him and when we were introduced the breeder said they were going to keep him and had named him Elvis,” wrote one poster. “He popped up in the welping box with his lip curled a little bit and the name stuck.”

Wrote another:

“Ours is Bogie, and I've never met another with his name.”
