Georgia Republican Rep. Tom Price Wednesday commended the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), for its efforts to investigate the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, which resulted in the death of four Americans, including the ambassador.
“Chairman Issa and his fellow members on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform ought to be commended for their tenacity and diligence in their pursuit of the truth,” Price said. “Theirs is the very important work of uncovering the facts on behalf of the American people, those who have lost loved ones in this terrorist attack and all those who serve this nation. I am confident they will not rest until we have an accurate and complete understanding of how such an atrocity occurred.”
The State Department has now explicitly contradicted the White House’s accounts of the attacks in Libya in statements to the press, Price — who is also chairman of the Republican Policy Committee — noted.
The Obama administration claimed the murders were a result of an anti-Islam video, while the State Department maintains that the film was not a cause, saying the murders were a result of highly-coordinated terrorism, he said.
“The mixed messages that have been disseminated by different agencies within the Obama Administration continue to raise disturbing questions about the competency of the White House’s response to this attack. President Obama’s apparent inability to manage his own administration underscores the failures of this White House to provide effective American leadership abroad,” Price said.
“We underestimate the threats of terrorism at our own peril. America’s security and sovereignty must be preserved by leaders who understand our unique role in the world.”
