Lulu Mitchell told her husband Carlo at least once a week he was wasting his money playing Powerball, until the California man actually won the lottery two weeks ago.
The Mitchells made their first public appearance Wednesday in Fresno, Calif., during a news conference. The Powerball jackpot for the couple totaled $213 million, wrote the television station.

"I'm glad he didn't listen to me," Lulu Mitchell, 66, said to United Press International.
Carlo Mitchell, a retired nuclear medicine technician, bought his lottery ticket at a Fast 'N Easy convenience store in east Fresno, where he managed to match all six numbers drawn on the Oct. 23 lottery. He decided to walk away with $123.4 million in a lump sum, wrote UPI.
The Mitchells, who have been married for 27 years, told KSEE-TV that once they realized Carlo had the winning tickets, they decided to create a financial game plan
for the money before they came forward.
"It takes time to meet with lawyers, accountants, and financial planners you trust," Carlo Mitchell told KSEE-TV, explaining why it took two weeks for them to claim the prize.
Carlo Mitchell told the news conference he would spend about $96 a month on everything from Super Lotto, Powerball, and Mega Millions jackpots, which often brought negative comments from his wife.
"I would tell him once a week he's wasting his money," Lulu Mitchell told the news conference, who admitted the news left her in a stunned silence for about five minutes.
Carlo Mitchell told the Fresno Bee that after the Oct. 23 drawing, a friend told him that the winner
came from the convenience store he normally played. He told the newspaper he had not thought about it again until he saw the results on television while waiting to get an X-ray at a hospital.
"I had a pretty good suspicion (I won), but I didn't say anything," Carlo Mitchell said to the Bee. "I just kept saying anything is possible."
Mitchell later found out that his six numbers, 03-23-31-34-47 and the bonus number 13 were an exact match.
