Roommate Killed After Drunken Dispute Over Pork Chops

A Florida man has been accused of killing his drunken roommate after an argument about how to prepare pork chops.

Police say Thomas Hahn, 55, fatally shot Robert Eugene Gray Jr., 35, one of his three Holly Hill roommates, just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Gray came home drunk 30 minutes earlier, according to a police account of the shooting. Hahn started arguing with Gray about his pork chops not being prepared properly. When the argument escalated, Hahn grabbed a .22-caliber rifle and fired at least three shots, two of which struck Gray. A third roommate called 911.

Hahn initially told investigators that he shot in self-defense, but witnesses say he wasn’t provoked. He is charged with second-degree murder and will possibly face other charges.

"This appears to be a senseless act of violence stemming from a minor domestic dispute between roommates," said Police Chief Mark Barker. "There is no clear answer at this hour as to why Hahn acted with such extreme violence."

Police are still investigating the situation.

The pork-chop killing comes a week after New York resident Jared Gurman, 26, was charged in the attempted murder of girlfriend Jessica Gelderman after the two argued via text message about the realism of the show “The Walking Dead.”

They were debating whether a zombie apocalypse-type scenario as depicted in the popular AMC show could ever happen in real life, Nassau County Detective Lt. Raymond Cote told CBS New York local.

Police say Gurman, of Williston Park, shot Gelderman when she visited his home to “calm him down." She is currently in serious, but stable condition.
