The news station cited French media sources and said a Toronto woman, 34, apparently met the officers at a pub and then went with them to the police headquarters on an island in the Seine River.
The Globe and Mail reported that the two officers accused
were French SWAT officers.
“We’re waiting for the investigation results,” the Globe and Mail quoted Bernard Petit, the head of the police force’s criminal investigation department, from a Europe1 radio interview. “But from an administrative point of view, things are clear in our minds. There’s no room for these boys in our ranks at 36 Quai des Orfèvres, in the criminal investigation department.”
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the suspension occurred “considering the grave nature of the allegations and the blatant breaches of the professional and ethical rules of the national police,” the Globe and Mail reported.
A lawyer for one of the men facing charges said his client didn’t do anything wrong; the man admitted to having sex with the woman, but said it was consensual, the Globe and Mail reported. The lawyer also said he believes the woman, who has returned to Canada, should be in France while the case is investigated.
