Pet Food Recall Expands: Natura Pet Products Pulls Dry Foods

After a positive salmonella test, Natura Pet Products has announced Tuesday an expanded voluntary recall of dry pet food products sold at veterinary offices, select retailers and online. This is the third such action for the company since March.

The recall includes Innova Dry dog and cat food, biscuits, bars and treats; Evo dry pet foods and treats; California Natural dry foods and treats; and all lot codes and package sizes of Healthwise, Karma and Mother Nature brands. CBS Chicago reported the products have expiration dates before June 10, 2014.

Procter & Gamble, which owns Natura, said in a news release that no sicknesses had been reported in animals or people due to their food.

We know this news disappoints you; we are disappointed too,” a statement on the Natura Pet Products website read. “Our decision allows us to ensure all products available in the marketplace were produced after June 10, [the] date when we implemented additional finished product testing procedures with the guidance of industry experts.”

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in pets can in include lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting, according to the FDA.
