Among the celebrities who stumped for President Barack Obama, including rapper Jay-Z and rock star Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry made a different kind of statement than her peers — a fashion statement.
The 28-year-old pop singer appeared at a benefit concert Saturday in Milwaukee, with a variety of presidential-propping duds. She began her performance in an unadorned red, white, and blue dress, but quickly shed the non-partisan Old Glory colors for something more specific.
First, she revealed a blue, skin-tight dress with the Obama campaign slogan, “Forward” emblazoned down the right side. According to Christian Post
, Perry sang the Al Green classic, “Let’s Stay Together,” a song that Obama himself has been known to sing at campaign rallies.
Soon after, Perry revealed yet another garment. This white, skintight latex dress brandished a mock-presidential ballot. Both Obama's and Mitt Romney’s names appeared on the dress, but the box next to Obama’s name was filled in. Perry’s backup dancers joined in, wearing white button-downs and bowties and blue pants.
Abigail Greydanus, a Los Angeles-based designer, made the skintight rubber dresses for Perry. Perry had previously worn the garments at a campaign rally in Las Vegas last month.
