PacSun T-Shirts Are Indecent, Mom Says, So She Buys Them All

A Utah mom was so offended by a line of "indecent" T-shirts at a local PacSun shop that she bought out the store's entire supply just to keep them away from teens.

Judy Cox was shopping at the University Mall in Orem, Utah, recently with her 18-year-old son when they walked by a window display at PacSun, a surf wear retail store geared toward young adults. The display was for the shop's new "Visual" line of T-shirts, most of which featured provocative silkscreened images of scantily clad women.

"I had a conversation with the store manager," Cox told the Daily Herald Provo. "She said she did refuse to put the accompanying banner up with the display because it was much worse, but that she couldn't take down the T-shirts without talking to her corporate office."

But a promise to relay her complaint was not enough for Cox, who then spent $567 to buy every single "offensive" and "pornographic" shirt in the store (the tops retail regularly for about $28).

"I'll let their corporate office figure out what to do with [the shirts] when I return them on day 59 of a 60-day return policy," she said.

According to the Daily Herald, the matter has been referred to the city attorney, who must weigh whether the T-shirt display violates city obscenity code. Cox has also asked mall management to review PacSun's lease agreement to determine whether the store is violating it by displaying "vulgarity and nudity."

"I hope my efforts will inspire others to speak up within their communities," Cox told The Associated Press in an email statement. "You don't have to purchase $600 worth of T-shirts, but you can express your concerns to businesses and corporations who promote the display of pornography to children."
