Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee South African Olympian sprinter who was charged with the murder of his lover Reeva Steenkamp, has reached a settlement over a separate alleged assault case in 2009 that occurred during a house party.
The details of the settlement were not officially released, but the 27-year-old Pistorius apparently agreed to the settlement due to pressure from his attorneys who advised him he could not fight both civil and criminal legal battles at the same time, the spokeswoman for the Olympic athlete said on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported

Pistorius had slammed and punched a door at a 2009 house party, and in the process, the broken door allegedly injured the leg of partygoer Cassidy Taylor-Memmory. Pistorius filed a counter claim against Taylor-Memmory, accusing the woman of making the assault up.
According to Pistorius family spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess, the settlement had "no bearing" on Pistorius' murder trial and was settled "solely for the purposes of expediency."
In a Wednesday interview with Australia’s Eyewitness News, Taylor-Memmory said
she had agreed to the settlement after Pistorius agreed to pay her legal fees and also drop his $200,000 counter claim against her.
"I agreed to it because I was so tired of it weighing me down," Taylor-Memmory told Eyewitness News, claiming she had been harassed by the media and public. "It became so difficult at a stage that I needed a bodyguard when I went out in public due to all the hate rants."
Pistorius, nicknamed "Blade Runner" for the prostheses he wears in track competitions worldwide, will go on trial on March 3 on a charge of premeditated murder for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home last Feb. 14.
The 27-year-old South African has repeatedly refuted claims that he deliberately murdered Steenkamp, arguing instead that her death was an accident
. He says he believed she was a nighttime intruder in his bathroom when he opened fire on his closed bathroom door.

Prosecutors have claimed the murder was premeditated, arguing that Pistorius planned to kill her and did so after a loud argument in the middle of the night.
In addition to the murder charges, Pistorius also faces firearm-related charges for firing a gun in a public space
