Killed in the shooting were Jose Andy Chavez, 28, an Elmore police officer; bartender Ramiro Sanchez; and a customer in the bar, Daniel Ramirez, 25, The Associated Press reported
. A fourth man was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The Toledo Blade reported that Chavez’s wife
, who was not named in the article, said that Mista hit her before the shooting.
“There may have been an altercation that precipitated this," Fremont Police Chief Timothy Wiersma told the Blade. "Things got way out of hand."
Surveillance footage from both inside and outside the bar is being reviewed by police.
Manuel Chavez, the uncle of Andy Chavez and also related by marriage to Daniel Ramirez, told the Sandusky Register that after the woman was allegedly slapped
, “All hell broke loose — my nephews jumped on this guy.”
The man, later identified as Mista, apparently was kicked out, but came back in through a side door and started shooting, Manuel Sanchez told the Register. Manuel Sanchez said he heard about the shooting around 2:30 a.m., and he raced to the hospital.
“They weren’t bad guys; they stayed out of trouble,” he told the Register. “Something just went wrong that night.”
Chris Page lives across the street from the Last Call and got home after the shooting occurred.
"People were outside crying and passing out," Page told the Blade.
