President Barack Obama's prom photos have been unearthed by Time magazine, thanks to an old classmate and friend.

The previously unpublished photos from 1979 show a 17-year-old Obama sporting a white dinner jacket and posing with friends Greg Orme and Kelli Allman, and date Megan Hughes at Allman's parents' house in Honolulu, Hawaii.

It was Allman who provided the photos to Time.

"It was a really fun, happy time. We were all cracking up, and everyone was smiling," she said. "It was pretty typical from there out as far as what happens at prom: the dinner and the dancing and the photos."

Allman also showed off her senior yearbook, where Obama penned almost a full-page goodbye note.

"Kelli, it has been so nice getting to know you this year," he wrote. "Call me and I'll buy you lunch sometime… Good luck in everything you do, and stay happy. Your friend, love, Barry Obama."

First lady Michelle Obama publicized her own prom photo last year on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
